WBPSC Miscellaneous Examination is conducted in Three Steps...

Step-1>Preliminary Exam.
Step-2>Mains Exam
Step-3>Personality Test

Preliminary Examination (200 Marks)

  • Completely MCQ type
  • Total Marks = 200
  • Number of Questions = 100
  • Marks for Each Question = 2
  • Time allowed = 90 Minutes
  • Weightage = General Studies (150 Marks) and Arithmetic (50 Marks)


Mains Examination ( Total= 450 Marks)

WBPSC Miscellaneous Mains Examination is consisting of three papers, with 150 marks for each.Paper-1, Paper-2 and Paper-3 are of conventional written type. Here is the elaborate analysis of the Mains Examination syllabus of Miscellaneous Service Exam.


Paper-1 (English): 150 Marks: Conventional written type, consisting of

  • Report Writing
  • Precis Writing
  • English Grammar (Correct use of words, correction of sentences, use of common phrases, synonyms, antonyms etc.)
  • Translation from Bengali/ Nepali/ Hindi/ Urdu/ Santhali to English


Paper-2 (Bengali/ Nepali/ Hindi/ Urdu/ Santhali): Conventional written type, consisting of

  • Report Writing
  • Precis Writing
  • Grammar
  • Translation from English to Bengali/ Nepali/ Hindi/ Urdu/ Santhali
  • Time allowed : 90 minutes (for Paper-1 + Paper-2)


Paper-3 (150 Marks)Conventional written type exam and both the groups are to be written in same language.

  • Group-A: General Studies = 100 Marks
  • Group-B: Arithmetic = 50 Marks
  • Duration : 60 Minutes


Total Duration for Main Exam: 2 hours and 30 minutes (for Paper 1+2+3); and the exam is held in a single day.



PERSONALITY Test: 100 Marks

  • Candidates are called for Personality Test on the basis of the marks obtained in the Main Exams (P1+P2+P3).
  • Final Merit list is made on the basis of Total Marks obtained in the Mains Examination and the PT.
